Murals for Brookfield Properties & Ala Moana, Hawaii
In 2022, I created a suite of 15 illustrations for physical and digital use by Ala Moana Centre in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Co-Loop approached me with a brief from Brookfields Properties that proposed I illustrate a number of local Hawaiian phrases using their brand colours. These illustrations would be used as murals, as decorative barricades in the shopping centre and as digital assets online and on social media.
I began by sketching loose ideas for each phrase and presented my favourites as roughs alongside mood images. Next, I began tightening the concepts into refined sketches and transformed the base brand colours into fleshed out colour palettes - each illustration had it’s own.
My goal for this project was to create a suite of playful and vibrant imagery that could work together as a set, but interesting and unique enough to work on their own. I’ve loved receiving images of the murals from people who have recognised my work out in the wild.
Note: The ‘Aloha’ piece was a collaboration between lettering artist Scott Biersack and I - he designed the lettering and I illustrated the background.
